We enjoyed fabulous weather last weekend for this year's Garden Expo at the Nambour Showgrounds. It was great to see lots of familiar faces and many new ones while helping with advice on the Plant Clinic. I was really impressed with the display put together by the team at the International Tropical Foliage Society. Great work, guys.
I also had a new project this year which kept things really exciting. The Monday before the show opened, Michael from the Sunshine Coast Council called to see if I could help with their Living Garden display. He needed a design for a 160m square garden space. This would showcase local native plants from different vegetation zones and be a focal point for many local environment groups, such as Barung Landcare, The Maroochy Bontanic Gardens and many others. So, with a super-tight deadline (design in 24 hours, construct garden in three days) and the assistance of the Green Corp teams, some of the council folks and my apprentice-with-the-mostest, we pulled it off. It looked great and we received loads of positive feedback. A big thank you too to all the suppliers who kindly loaned plant stock, and landscaping materials for the weekend. Just when you think life is pretty busy, something comes along to help you realise what you can really do!
And if you've never been to the Expo, make sure you put it in your diary for next year. In my humble opinion, it's the best of it's kind in Queensland.
